Ria Formosa
The Ria Formosa is a salt marsh located in the Algarve region in Portugal, which extends across the Councils of Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, covering an area of around 198056 square meters along 37,28 miles from the beach from Ancão to Manta Rota beach. And it was considered one of the most beautiful parks in the Algarve, having a great function and a beautiful habitat.
It is an area protected by the status of a Natural Park, granted by Law number 373/87 of December 9, 1987. Previously, the Ria Formosa had the status of a Natural Reserve, established in 1978. It is a place classified as a Ramsar site.
Its physiognomy is quite diverse due to the channels formed under the influence of tidal currents, thus forming a dense hydrographic network.
It is a wetland of international importance as a habitat for water birds. It is, for this reason, registered in the Ramsar Convention, which is why the Portuguese Government is committed to maintaining the ecological characteristics of the area and promoting its rational use.
Noélia’s Restaurant
Known as the Queen of Ria Formosa, chef Noélia, whose restaurant has her own name, is a national media figure. Passionate about gastronomy and self-taught, she is always looking for new recipes and trying different combinations. Its cuisine is based on local fish and seafood, with a fixed menu, although there is always a variety of dishes with the freshest produce of the day. It’s a good idea to book in advance, as the house is always full! (source: Michelin Guide)
